1918-

The Model Q Gile tractor came out in 1918. It used a Gile built four-cylinder 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inch engine and had a 15-35 horsepower rating. The unit frame construction in this 1918 model represented the ultimate in tractor design. Wallis began the unit frame idea with their boiler plate crankcase. Henry Ford tried out his little “ Detroit growler”, the Fordson, with cast iron from one end to the other. Obviously, Gile followed suit. By the mid-1920s, the majority of American farm tractors were utilizing the unit frame design.
