Consolidated Utilities Corporation

The 1920 Matthews light plants were available from Consolidated Utilities Corp. of Chicago, Illinois, in 1/3 KW and 1 KW sizes. One main casting housed the engine and generator, with the flywheel on the generator end. A 3 1/2 horsepower engine was featured on the 1 KW sizes. Only $445 would buy the 1/3 KW Matthews plant – it used a one-horsepower engine. The connection between this firm and Matthews Engineering Corporation of Sandusky, Ohio is unknown.
