Grand Rapids Yacht & Engine Co.

While many marine engine builders used a separate carburetor for each cylinder, Monarch engines used but one, regarless of the number of cylinders. By 1899 the company was building a line of marine engines up to 100 horsepower. After 1900 nothing more is known of the company.

An extensive article in the August 3, 1899 issue of American Machinist illustrates this three-cylinder, 25 horsepower Monarch marine engine built by grand Rapids Gas Engine & Yacht Co. Reference to this Grand Rapids firm occur as early as 1897, making them one of the very early marine engine builders.
