Around 1886, Noye bought the rights to the Rice Automatic Steam Engine from F. B. Rice and began manufacturing them.

The Noye Mfg Co was founded by John T. Noye in 1850 as the John T. Noye Mfg. Co. They were formed to manufacture flour mill machinery. After his death in 1881, John’s son Richard took control and the company became reorganized as the Noye Mfg. Co.
