Roberts Motor Company probably owed its existence to E.W. Roberts, one of the foremost gas engine designers of the 1900-1915 period. Organzied about 1910, Roberts Motor Company intitally announced a combination engine-compressor unit capable of delivering 30 CFM at 100 PSI. The company noted that the motor woudl not stall, even under a 150 PSI load. Weighing only 40 pounds, this little outfit was undoubtedly a progenitor of things to come in the portable air compressor business.
A 1913 advertisement noted that Roberts engines were situable for automotive, stationary, amrine, or aeronautical duty, thus prepetuating the notion of an engine suitable for almost anything. By 1915 the company name was changed to Roberts Motor Manufacturing Company, but little was heard from the firm after that time.
