Union Foundry & Machine Co.

A Union Foundry advertisement in September 1913, issue of Gas Power stated: “Giant engines are modern, up-to-date engines that are short the troublesome, fussy features and long on practical, time-tried features, such as auxiliary exhaust port, off-set crankshaft, and other good things….” Despite all of this apparent quality, very little is known about the company or the extent of its operations. From the tenor of Union’s advertising, the Giant engine had apparently been on the market for some time prior to this 1913 advertisement. After 1913 the company is practically unheard of. The style shown here was available in 1 1/2, 1 3/4, 2 1/4, 4 1/2, and 6 horsepower sizes, with respective prices of $26.50, $35, $45, $92.50, and $125, f.o.b Ottawa.
