The Adco engine was a very unusual combination of poppet and sleeve valves. The cylinder and head were cast in one piece, eliminating the constant problems associated with head gaskets. This Adco 8-horsepower engine and Adco hay press are turning loose hay into bales. Many can recall the dusty, dirty job of tying the bales by hand. Parts were available for these engines as late as 1948.
Just when Adco Manufacturing Company started building their unusual engine is unknown. Most likely it was built during the 1915-1920 period when gasoline engines had their heyday.
