Tractor Info

1912-1913

Several improvements were evident on Heider’s second tractor, which came along in 1912. The Waukesha engine remained, as did the roller chain final drives and the stiff axle chain steering. The cooling fan on the open radiator disappeared, probably because the evaporative cooling was sufficient without the use of a fan. The belt pulley and friction drives were moved ahead of the bull pinions, and the canopy was fancied up. These improvements, along with the addition of fenders increased the sales appeal. Rock Island Plow Company sold hundreds of these tractors, and eventually bought out the Heider tractor interests. Rock Island used the Heider trade name on their tractors until 1927.
