The Heider 15-27 handily proved itself to be capable of the manufacturer’s rating by developing 17.06 drawbar horsepower in the rated load test. Final results indicate a pull of 2,461 pounds at 2.6 mph over the ten hour test run. The friction drive transmission provided infinitely variable speed, with three different maximum drawbar load tests being run at speeds from 2.45 to 3.15 mph. At the lowest speed the 15-27 gave a pull of 3,302 pounds for 21.54 maximum drawbar horsepower. During the 36 hours required for test completion, kerosene fuel was used. In the brake horsepower tests, an economy of 7.62 horsepower hours per gallon was calculated in the rated load test, with an even 30 horsepower appearing in the maximum load trial. At this load, fuel economy dropped to 6.51 horsepower hours per gallon with a total consumption of 4.608 gallons per hour. The 15-27 weighed 6,290 pounds and carried a Waukesha four-cylinder vertical, L-head engine. Using a 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inch bore and stroke it was rated at 900 rpm. Standard equipment also included a Waukesha governor, United whirling vane air cleaner, Dixie 46 magneto, and a Kingston Model L carburetor. Minor problems occurred during the test due to a defective ball bearing, but no other repairs or adjustments were necessary.
