In 1908 Acadia was founded by W.T. Ritcey. They were known for their production of marine engines, lobster hoists, winches, and other equipment. Acadia began producing stationary engines in 1920. The line was virtually identical to that sold by United Engine Co. of Lansing, Michigan, and built by Associated Manufacturers of Waterloo, Iowa. Acadia built these engines in their own plant at Bridgewater. The manufacturing arrangement if any, between Associated and Acadia is unknown. There is no question that the engines were built from start to finish at Acadia’s Bridgewater plant.
