The low tension ignition, in must Advance engines, was ahead of the industry since most 1898 engines were still using hot tube ignition. Hamilton engines also geatured an overhanging cylinder, thus permitting free expansion.

As early as 1898 the Hamilton engine appeared. It was built by the Advance Manufacturing Company, of Hamilton, Ohio.
