Air Cooled Motor Co

R.E. Olds of Oldsmobile and Reo automotive fame controlled this company, with the perfection of the air-cooled design being credited to W.S. Olds. The Company claimed to have been first to market a stationary air-cooled engine, but it has been impossible to establish the earliest production date. A 1909 advertisement states that these engines were built in sizes from 1 1/2 to 10 horsepower.

history

The air-cooled motors of Air Cooled Motor Co. were also built in a two-cylinder opposed style, but no information on horsepower ratings is presently available. This company was closely related to the Original Gas Engine, also controlled by R.E. Olds. In 1911, both were consolidated into the IDeal Gas Engine Company of Lansing. The change was in name only, with management remaining as before. R.E. Olds and Madison F. Bates of Bates & Edmonds Motor Company of Landing held joint ownership in certain engine patents.
