Automatic Light Company

Holt Farm Light power plants from Automatic Light Company of Ludington, Michigan, featured a single-cylinder 1.7 horsepower engine with electric starting and an electric governor. Rated at 3/4 KW, these units used no storage batteries but started on demand from a single battery. When there was no power demand the engine automatically shut down, but resumed operation immediately on demand. The company guaranteed that the generator could never be burned out by overloading. For 1920, it retailed at $490. The engine base was 36 inches long by 26 inches wide.
