Baker Manufacturing Co.

A.S. Baker Co. was founded in 1872 as a machine shop and steam engine builder. By 1874 the steam engine was discontinued, with windmills and pumps becoming the principal products. The famous “Monitor” trademark was adopted in 1876. During 1876 the business was incorporated as Baker Mfg. Company. Monitor wooden windmills were sold for many years, with an all-steel model emerging in 1923.
