Beaver Manufacturing Co.

In early 1906 Beaver took a step that would eventually make the company a major builder of tractor engines. The four-cylinder Beaver engines were used extensively for many years. This 1913 model was slightly improved over the original 1905 style, and engines of later years were streamlined to reflect improved designs. Beaver also built an 18-horsepower two-cylinder opposed engine for truck use during the 1905-1913 period. Stationary engines were discontinued by 1912.

history

Prior to mid-1904, Reliance engines were built successively by Milwaukee-Rice Machinery Co. and Reliance Gas & Oil Engine Co. When Beaver took over, the “Reliance” trademark was retained until mid-1905. Reliance engines at this time included the vertical style shown here – it was built in sizes from 1 to 8 horsepower. Horizontal engines of 10 and 15 horsepower were also available.
