Chicago Gasoline Engine Works

In 1905, Chicago gas engines adopted a four-cycle design. Six sizes were available consisting of 2,3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 horsepower. All were of the same general design as this 2-horsepower engine and pump jack which sold complete for $102. The plain engine is listed for $90. Other models were priced at $130 for the 3 horsepower size, followed by $160, $220, $285, and $325 for the 3,4,6,8, and 10 horsepower sizes respectively. Marine engines were also built in 1 1/2, 3, and 6 horsepower models. By 1906 the company was reorganized as Smith Mfg. Company and soon began marketing Great Western engines.
