Cushman scooter company was started by Everett and Clinton Cushman in 1903 and was incorporated as Cushman Motor Works in 1913. They began producing their four-stroke Husky engine in 1922. The Company produced engines for farm equipment, pumps, lawnmowers, and boats. During the Great Depression in 1936, they began making Auto-Glide scooters. These were widely used by the US Armed Forces during World War II as an alternative to automobiles. In 1962, Cushman became a division of the Outboard Marine Corporation. In 1989, Ransomes, of Great Britain purchased Cushman, and then Textron purchased Ransomes.
