Famous Mfg. Company is listed as being located in both East Chicago, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois. Since the firm’s addresses are nearly as elusive as its product history, it can only be speculated that the company either moved sometime during its life span, or what is more likely, they maintained sales and business officed in Chicago with the manufacturing plant in East Chicago.
As did many other engine manufacturers, Famous eventually entered the automotive scene, introducing a two-passenger car in 1908. Its two-cylinder opposed air-cooled engine had overhead valves and appears to be a variation of their stationary engine. The Famous high-wheeler automobile was built in several styles but only remained on the market for a couple of years.
