From the beginning, Gade engines were a success with sales increasing so fast that by 1907 the company employed well over 100 men. Dredging machines were announced in 1905, and sales of these big outfits became a large part of the operation. The dredge was powered by a 55-horsepower Gade-built double-opposed engine.
Gade’s entry into the gas engine business began in 1904 with the acquisition of the Hardenbrook & Rice patent on an air-cooled engine design. By 1910 the dredging business came under a separate business entity known as the Economy Excavator Company.
