Globe Iron Works Company

A 1901 advertisement illustrated the While engine set up for stationary work. This particular outfit was specially designed for recharging electric automobiles. At this time electric automobiles were enjoying a certain popularity. Note the friction drive arrangement on this unit. In 1904 Globe moved to Menominee, Wisconsin, but little is known about the operations at this location.

Clarence O. White received several gas engine patents beginning with 634,679 of 1899. In 1900, two patents were granted – 664,110 and 6664,200. Patent 671,743 was issued in 1901, followed by 694,708 and 702, 895 in 1902. About 1900 these patents began paying off with the beginning of engine production at Globe Iron Works. Known as the “White” engine, it was designed primarily for marine work but could also be adapted to stationary uses.
