H.C. Doman Company

Doman started building engines already in 1902, specializing for the first few years in marine engines. However, by 1908 the company broadened its scope to include stationary engines as well.

history

H.C. Doman Company was originally founded as Union Iron Works but reorganized in 1902, and the name changed. They advertised as “the largest engine and launch builders in the West”. The company made a dowel-setting machine and sold the rights to C.G. Dauber Machine Co. in 1907. They then concentrated on manufacturing marine gas engines and launches, and later gas engines for farm tractors. In 1911, Herman C. Doman retired, and in 1920, the company was bought by Universal Products Co.
