The original products of the company included gasoline-powered motor cars for railroad use. They built 23 motor cars for local rail companies on the west coast.

Elbert John Hall and Bert Scott formed the Hall-Scott Motor Car Company in 1910. Hall-Scott was a famous manufacturer of fine-quality automotive and marine engines. A few were used in tractors. By 1928, J J the firm had become a division of the American Car & Foundry Motors Company.
