Heathcock-Rush Engine Co.

Heathcock-Rush engines were offered in sizes from 3 1/2 to 10 horsepower. A 1910 Heathcock-Rush catalog illustrates a 2-horsepower vertical engine. It is said that in later years, Heathcock-Rush built a modernized series of engines similar in appearance to the Hercules or Economv engines. It is thought that very few of these engines still exist.

history

Ambrose Heathcock and Lee Rush organized this company in 1900. Both had formerly worked for Southern Engine & Boiler Works in the same city. The firm began building engines shortly after receiving a patent for the governor in 1904. Production continued swiftly until the late 1930s or early 1940s. The machine shop and foundry closed in 1949 after the death of Mr. Heathcock.
