International Harvester Co.

Condensing the entire International Harvester engine line into a definitive presentation is a formidable task. When the Author compiled 150 Years of International Harvester, the gas engine section alone comprised some 250 illustrations. And, even such a great number barely did justice to the IH engine line Rather than usurp a major portion of the present work with the IH line, the reader is referred to 150 Years of International Harvester for an in-depth study of these engines.

history

Early IH engines followed the “line within a line” approach – several distinct engine styles were thus offered simultaneously but bearing different trade logos such as Titan, Famous, Nonpareil, Victor, and Mogul. With the introduction of the Type M engines in 1917, HArvester’s engine line was brought into a single design. During the 1930s the Type M series was gradually phased out and replaced by the famous “LA” engine series. These were built until 1948. International Harvester pioneered the development of multiple cylinder engines for stationary power use, and still remains a major supplier of such power units.
