history

Lockwood-Ash Motor Company was founded in 1904. The company manufactured a single, a twin, and later a four-cylinder marine inboard engine. They were sold under the Lockwood Ash brand from around 1905 to around 1929. Sears-Roebuck also purchased some of its engines. Ash sold his holdings to Lockwood in 1927, and he proceeded to expand the outboard motor line to include larger horsepower motors. Lockwood-Ash merged with Elto and Evinrude in 1929 to form Outboard Motor Company (OMC). Lockwood was discontinued in 1930 due to the Great Depression being at hand.
