John W. Lorimer, while at Atlas, was instrumental in developing an airless injection system for diesel engines. This revolutionized the technology and his engine is now included in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution.
Lorimer Diesel Engine Co. was organized in 1934. The principals were John W. Lorimer and his son Ralph Stevenson Lorimer. Their obituaries state that Lorimer formed after John Lorimer divested his interest in the Atlas Imperial Diesel Engine Company. The demands of the war in 1940 had Lorimer expanding its personnel, shop, and product lines. In 1942, they were producing engines for Lend Lease, a US Navy or the US Maritime Commission. Lorimer was absorbed as a division of Atlas Imperial around 1949.
