For a time, Lozier luxury cars were the most expensive produced in the US. A Lozier entered the first running of the Indianapolis 500 in 1911. In a controversial scoring decision, the car, driven by Ralph Mulford, finished in second place. Many felt that the Lozier had won the race. They only produced a few thousand cars during their lifespan.
Lozier was founded in 1900 by Henry Abram Lozier. When he died in 1903, his son Harry took over the company. They produced vehicles and automotive parts. The company attempted to merge with Ford Motor Company, but the merger failed and Lozier declared bankruptcy in 1915. There were some attempts at reorganization and sporadic production continued until 1918.
