history

McKeen Motor Car Co was founded by William McKeen. McKeen was the Union Pacific Railroad’s Superintendent of Motive Power and Machinery. The company manufactured internal combustion-engined railcars. They manufactured 152 between 1905 and 1917. The company lost its major sponsor and investor in 1909 when E. H. Harriman died. His successors were less enthusiastic about McKeen cars. Eventually, McKeen cars were re-engined with gasoline-mechanical, gasoline-electric, diesel-electric, or steam power.
