Monarch Machine Co. of Des Monies, Iowa, was another of the engine builders who switched to the automotive side before disappearing completely. Were it not for this move, there would be no history of the company at all. However, in 1908 the company did market the Monarch car, which was in fact a high-wheel, 4-passenger, wagon-like affair with chain drive and a cooled engine of 127 cubic inches, presumed to be of Monarch’s own manufacturer, and probably an adaptation of its stationary engine design. Aside from this brief glimpse, nothing is known about the company at this time.
Monarch Machine Co was making gasoline engines in 1909 and at some point around 1920, they were reorganized as the New Monarch Machine & Stamping Co. They continued to manufacture engines for a few years but seem to have ended that line of business to pursue metal stamping.
