Commonly referred to as NYSSP Co, the company sold verticle “bottle” engines, referring to the shape of the main casting on the verticle engines. As well as horizontal engines. Their first “bottle” engine, designed by Stephen Wilcox won a prize at the Paris Machinery Exhibition.

New York Safety Steam Power Co was incorporated in 1869. Their sales office was located at 30 Cortland St in New York City, but its steam engines were manufactured in Hope Valley, RI by Nicholds and Langworthy.
