Perkins Wind Mill Co.

Established in 1860, Perkins Wind Mill Company had become a well established business by the turn of the century. About this time Perkins launched a sereis of engines to completment their existing line of windmills, pumps, and other farm equipment. The horizontal ide shaft style shown here was available in 3,4,6 and 8 horsepower models. Prices for the 1905 era were $175, $225, $325, and $400 respectively. Note the elaborate valve gear and governor design of these engines.

Around 1912 Perkins announced an entirely new engine line. Gone were the sideshaft engines of earlier years, and in their place came a new series using a simple push rod valve mechanism. Single cylinder engines were available in 2 1/2, 5, and 7 horsepower sizes. For larger power needs, Perkins also offered a two cylinder opposed engine in 12 and 20 horsepower sizes.
