Reliable Tractor & Engine Company was the reorganized version of the Heer Engine Company. Organized in 1915, the new company was virtually the same as its predecessor. Stationary and portable engine construction probably continued at Reliable, at least for a time. With the company’s incorporation in 1918, the tide had definitely shifted to tractors, along with building tractor engines as OEM equipment for other companies. Stationary engines were probably discontinued entirely at this time. Reliable continued in the engine and tractor business until 1933, with the Great Depression probably contributing to their egress frm the market. As late as 1948 repair parts for Heer engines and Reliable tractors were available from the Mayo Company of Portsmouth.
Around 1915 or 1916, the Heer company was reorganized into the Reliable Tractor and Engine Co. Prior to this, the company was founded by Chris Heer, from the Heer Engine Co, who joined with Morton around 1910 to form the Morton-Heer Co. They were soon absorbed by the Heer Engine Co and the Morton-Heer tractor soon became the Heer.
