The Rumsey operation was quite extensive and included almost everything for hardware dealers, steamfitters, and plumbers. Apparently, most of their products were marketed through dealers instead of direct selling.

Rumsey was founded by Charles B. Rumsey sometime around 1898. He made engines in several New York cities, St. Johnsonville, Binghamton, Ripley, and Friendship and all between 1898 and 1917. Though he never personally owned the business, he had financial backing from others.
