In addition to their attractive double cylinder model, United also built a Manley single cylinder engine. A closed jacket design is illustrated here, although this engine could also be purchased in a hopper cooled style as well. Sizes from 4 to 7 horsepower were available, and like the double cylinder engines, the Type C featured spark plug ignition and volume governing. Early models used a combination of batteries adn an ignition hynamo, while the 1914 series featured a Wico high tension magneto as built by Witherbee Electric company. Also featured was a float-feed Schebler carburetor. Manley engines were selfom advertised in the gas engine trade journals, although a 1913 gas engine textbook titled Farm Gas Engine by Hirshfield and Ulbricht illustrates the two models hsown here. If any Manley engines still exist, they are undoubtedly a rarity.
Manley engines were apparently built in the 1910-1915 period, but their advertising is so scant, and their catalogs so rare that almost nothing is known of them.
