Van Blerck Motor Company

Van blerck specialized in marine and automonile engines from their very beginnings. Presumably the company had its impetus with Joseph C. W. Van Blerck, who received Patent No. 980, 576 covering a portion of his engine design, in January, 1911. Although Van Blerck advertisements are very difficult to locate it is known that by 1915 the company was offering a wide range of high quality automotive engines in addition to an extensive series of heavy duty marine engine designs. Shown here is a six cylinder Model E-6 Van Blerck engine of the 1920s. The cylinders were cast in pairs. Almost every feature was included on these engines that 1920s technology permitted, including dual ignition, Leece-Neville two-unit electrical system, and many other features.

history

Joseph Van Blerck had begun manufacturing engines by 1911. At that point, it appears that the company was in Detroit, Michigan, but a 1914 illustration indicates that the firm was in Monroe, Michigan. Van Blerck engines were intended to epitomize quality marine designs that were of the highest quality, as well as having a high aesthetic value. By 1921, Van Blerck Engines appeared without Joseph Van Blerck. finally, in 1924, Van Blerck Motors appears in Plainfield, New Jersey with nearly a dozen different models. Occasional notice is made of Van Blerck in the following years, with the Van Blerck name appearing in 1937 under the ownership of Boat Engines Inc., Long Island City, New York.
