The limited amouont of original literature on the Burger engine took a technical approach to prospective buyers, including numerous test results adn other data, but giving little infomration on available sizes and basic specifications. Obviously the company used a one-on-one approach, especially since these extremely elaborate engines were undoubtedly priced far higher than the average production model.
Woolley Foundry & Machine Works automatic engines were available in 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60, 75, and 100 horsepower sizes – the largest of these weighed 22,000 pounds. Also of interest, one of Burger’s indicator test cards reveals that a 40 horsepower, 14 x 19 engine developed 51.5 indicated horsepower, but deducting for friction and other losses, 44.75 horsepower was developed. Proof of their steady operation was also revealed. On the variable load test, the indicator pen drew an almost identical figure, regardless of speed or load. Nothing is known of the Burger engines after 1905.
