This tractor featured a USSR Diesel engine. Of V-6 design, it was turbocharged, and carried a raced speed of 2,100 rpm. Its 5.118 x 4.528 inch bore and stroke gave a 558 CID. At rated engine speed, 168.76 PTO horsepower was observed, as was an economy of 16.25 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel. Operating at 1,000 PTO rpm and a corresponding engine speed of 2,050 rpm, an economy of 16.48 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel was achieved under a load of 169.63 PTO horsepower. Repairs and adjustments during 41 hours of operating time were relatively minor in nature. The selective gear fixed-ratio transmission offered partial range power shifting. Its twelve forward speeds ranged from 2.1 to 18.7 mph. Using sixth gear, the two-hour drawbar run at 147.03 maximum available horsepower indicated a pull of 10,381 pounds at 5.31 mph with slippage totaling 3.61%. Fuel economy was posted at 14.53 horsepower hours per gallon. By comparison, the ten-hour run at 75% pull revealed an economy of 13.98 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel under a load of 118.73 drawbar horsepower. Other data includes a pull of 8,048 pounds at 5.53 mph and slippage of 2.77%. Weighing in at 18,765 pounds, the 1500 Diesel used 530-610/21.3P-24P tires. Additional rear ballast gave a total test weight of 19,885 pounds.
