The Oliver Hart-Parr 18-28 tractor made its debut in early 1930. This model used the same basic four-cylinder engine as was used in the concurrent Row-Crop. Although the 18-28 weighed much less than old No. 3, it was capable of almost the same horsepower output as its older, and much larger ancestor. It was offered in several variations, a Western Special, Ricefield, Row-Crop, Orchard, a high speed and low-speed model, and Industrial. In July 1930 the 18-28 tractor appeared at Lincoln’s Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory and was tested under No. 180. This test revealed almost 24 drawbar horsepower. Although the 18-28 was initially offered only with steel wheels, rubber tires became optional equipment in the early 1930s. A 1935 catalog notes that “Air tires are available as extra equipment.” An interesting, albeit a minor feature, was the use of a filter on the crankcase breather to deter the entry of dirt and grit into the lubricating oil.
