The 656 replaced the 460 and its chief innovation was the use of a new hydrostatic transmission. It was available in an LP, gasoline or diesel version. It also offered variants including the International 656 utility tractor, the International 2656 industrial tractor, and the Farmall 656 HC high clearance version.
