Instead of the 3.939 x 4.500 inch bore and stroke used on the David Brown 1200 Diesel of Test No. 976, this tractor carried a similar four-cylinder engine using the same bore, but with a 4.000 inch stroke. Rated at 2,200 rpm, it had a 194.9 CID. At rated engine speed, 52.07 maximum PTO horsepower appeared, and an economy of 16.4 horsepower hours per gallon was recorded. When running at 540 PTO rpm and a corresponding engine speed of 1,828 rpm, an economy of 16.48 horsepower hours per gallon was achieved against an output of 46.00 PTO horsepower. No repairs or adjustments were noted for this tractor during 5514 hours of operating time. Standard equipment included 16.9/14-30 rear and
7.50-16 inch front tires. Also furnished was a selective gear fixed- ratio transmission having six forward speeds in a range from 2.04 to 13.8 mph. Bare tractor weight was 4,940 pounds. Operating in third gear, the two-hour economy run was made at 43.31 maximum available drawbar horsepower. Its economy yield of 13.8 horsepower hours per gallon resulted after pulling 3,689 pounds at 4.4 mph with slippage of 6.37%. The ten-hour run at 75% pull noted an economy of 13.98 horsepower hours per gallon against an output of 35.26 drawbar horsepower. Other statistics include a pull of 2,873 pounds at 4.6 mph with 4.69% slippage. Additional front and rear ballast boosted the total test weight to 8,760 pounds.
