Tractor Info

1913-1924

A unique friction drive transmission gave the Heider 12-20 the distinction of being the first tractor tested at Nebraska to feature more than one or two forward speeds. A total of eight different rated speeds were indicated in the test reports—it would be many years until this speed range was offered by other builders. Like all prior tests, the 12-20 used kerosene fuel in its four-cylinder 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inch engine. Rated at 900 rpm, it was of vertical, L-head design. Regular equipment included a Kingston Model 13 carburetor and the ever-popular Dixie Model 46 magneto. On the ated brake horsepower test, 20.18 bhp was indicated, with fuel consumption coming to 2.96 gph. Fuel economy amounted to 6.81 horsepower hours per gallon of kerosene. Nearly 25 1/4 horsepower was developed in the maximum brake horsepower test, with fuel economy dropping to only 4.24 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel. U the drawbar, a maximum pull of 2,223 pounds was recorded at a speed of slightly over 2’A mph for a maximum of 13.43 drawbar horsepower.
