Weighing in at 5,290 pounds, this model featured 16.9-30 rear and 7.50-16 inch front tires. Additional front and rear ballast raised the total test weight of 9,780 pounds. The selective gear fixed- ratio transmission was partially synchronized – its eight forward speeds ranged from 1.4 to 16.2 mph. Operating in fifth gear, the two-hour economy run at 47.52 maximum available drawbar horsepower saw a pull of 3,440 pounds at 5.18 mph and slippage of 5.74%. Economy in this test came to 14.37 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel. A second run of 75% pull indicated an output of
39.17 drawbar horsepower, a pull of 2,659 pounds at 5.52 mph and slippage of 4.38%. Fuel economy in this ten-hour run was posted at 13.69 horsepower hours per gallon, the 55 06 featured a Deutz four-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine rated at 2,300 rpm. Using a 3.94 x 4.72 inch bore and stroke it carried a 230 CID. No repairs or adjustments were recorded during 46 1/2 hours of operating time. At rated engine speed, 56.08 maximum PTO horsepower was developed and an economy of 17.09 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel resulted. At a PTO speed of 540 rpm and a corresponding engine speed of 2,071 rpm, an economy figure of 17.77 was posted against an output of 52.88 PTO horsepower.
