Also designated as the Federal DF tractor, this unit weighed 3,591 pounds and was equipped with 5.50-16 front and 11-38 rear tires. During Tests F, G, and H an additional 1,659 pounds of weight was added to each rear wheel. The DF was equipped with forward speeds of 3.08, 4.45, 6.19, and 12.27 mph. A Buda four- cylinder diesel engine of I-head design was featured—with a 182 CID, it carried a rated speed of 1,800 rpm and used a 3 3/4 x 4 1/8 inch bore and stroke. Engine torque peaked at 179.6 foot-pounds at an engine speed of 1,200 rpm. No repairs or adjustments were noted during 40 hours of operating time. Test G produced a low- gear maximum pull of 3,995 pounds at 2.82 mph. Fuel economy at the drawbar rated load came in at 12.41 horsepower hours per gallon of diesel fuel per Test H. This run also revealed a pull of 2,175 pounds at 4.32 mph with a slippage of 4.51%. At a 100% maximum belt load of 33.84 horsepower, fuel economy for the DF was recorded at 13.03 horsepower hours per gallon. Under a Test D rated load of 30.6 belt horsepower, fuel economy rose to 13.47 horsepower hours per gallon of fuel.
