Oliver attempted to find many commercial and industrial uses for the 770 engine. In this instance, the company experimented with an Oliver 770 engine as power for a truck. Little is known of these experiments, but legend has it that after some experimental work with heavy loads the truck frame folded up and that essentially ended the project. More than likely, this unit was used in and around the Oliver plant, but there is no indication that Oliver’s trucks’ were seriously contemplated as a production line venture. During the same production period as the 770 agricultural models, Oliver Corporation offered the 770 Industrial Power-Pak units to OEM manufacturers. This Tampo road roller was one such unit, and it carried a pair of the Oliver 770 Power-Paks. Essentially, this was an engine/transmission unit, complete with final drives. The manufacturer then adapted their equipment to the Power-Pak. In addition to the road roller shown here, Oliver furnished the Power-Pak for many other applications.
